EDP workers have started their strike today, which is scheduled until 31 August, demanding career advancement, after negotiations with the company failed to produce the results expected by the unions.
In a statement, the Inter-Union Federation of Metallurgical, Chemical, Electrical, Pharmaceutical, Pulp, Paper, Graphic, Press, Energy and Mining Industries (Fiequimetal), had argued that “career advancement is a battle that cannot stop”.
“With a plenary meeting postponed from 22 May to 5 June, at its request, and again with nothing new to present at the 19 June meeting, the administration decided to transform this plenary into bilateral meetings with the unions”, they highlighted, adding that “there have been no results so far”.
In this context, “it was decided to issue a strike notice for the period from 5 July to 31 August, deadlines that may be renewed if the company does not present real solutions to the workers’ demands”, they warned.
The union structure also revealed that “due to the lack of solutions presented by EDP management, on 5 June, the Fiequimetal negotiating committee, in protest, decided to abandon the negotiating table until the company presented a new proposal, as well as the data that had already been requested on several occasions”.
The strike was called, in addition to Fiequimetal, by the National Union of Industry and Energy – Sindel, the Energy Union of Portugal – Sinergia, the Energy Innovation Union – Sinovae, and the Industry and Energy Union of Portugal – Sirep. The Ministry of Labor decreed minimum services.
