According to Postal, Conde Nast Traveller has identified a Portuguese location as one of the most wonderful secret places in Europe, highlighting it in the article “Los lugar secretos más bonito de Europa”. In this list of the 15 most secret and beautiful European destinations, it occupies the tenth place, sharing the spotlight with other picturesque places such as Monemvasía in Greece, Gjogv in the Faroe Islands, and La Ciotat in France.

Baleal, located just an hour’s drive from Lisbon, is described as “paradise on earth for lovers of surfing, bodyboarding and water sports in general”. Condé Nast magazine highlights this destination as a privileged location for those who practice these sports, offering perfect waves and a magnificent white sand beach, as reported by NCultura.

Located north of Peniche, Baleal is described in the travel magazine article as “a fantastic destination, like few others on the continent”. This place is a true gem waiting to be discovered, especially attractive to Europeans, particularly the Spanish. However, the Portuguese are already well aware of the unique beauty of this refuge, where they can enjoy its natural charms.

Baleal, which was once a small island, is now connected to the mainland by a sandbar. This connection has created a destination with vast stretches of sand to the north and south, divided by a road. The infrastructure on offer is impressive, with restaurants, accommodation, swimming pools, and bars serving visitors.

Beachgoers choose the northern or southern part depending on the wave and wind conditions. For greater comfort, it is possible to rent awnings. Additional attractions include the view of two small islands: Ilha de Fora and Ilhéu das Pombas. The northern tip of the peninsula is marked by the Hermitage of Santo Estêvão and the ruins of an old fort.
