According to the Cinema and Audiovisual Institute (ICA), 731,410 spectators went to the cinema in June this year. In May 667,595 went and in April 634,297.

Despite this increase, the numbers recorded between April and June last year were higher. In April, May, and June 2023, Portuguese cinemas registered around one million spectators (999,913 in April, 1,103,481 in May, and 987,246 in June), with this year's figures corresponding to declines in attendance that fluctuate in terms of counterparts between 25.9% and 39.5%, in the last three months.

In June this year, the increase in the number of spectators, compared to April and May, was also reflected in box office revenue: it was around 4.5 million euros, 21.4% less than in June of the year past when recorded revenue had reached 5.78 million euros.

In accumulated terms, in the first half of this year, Portuguese cinemas registered around 4.7 million spectators, 12.8% less than in the same period in 2023, when there were 5.4 million spectators.

In terms of box office revenue, for the first half of this year, the drop recorded is 9.6%. In the first six months of 2023, revenue had been around 32.1 million euros, this year I'm at 29 million.

According to the ICA, in June this year, the most watched film in cinemas was the North American “Bad Boys: Everything or Nothing”, released on June 6, (187,376), followed by the animated film “Garfield: The Film” (142,606), in theatres since May 23.
