The commemoration of the tradition of Banho 29 dates back to ancient times and marks the end of summer, believing the popular that the purifying sea bath on 29 August was worth 29 baths and warded off demons. Currently, the date is the reason for many parties that invite residents and visitors to remember the tradition.

The free event is even bigger this year, with festivities planned for Cais da Solaria and Jardim da Consituição located in the historic center of the city. Three stages will be placed in Vila da Luz, in the middle of Av. Dos Pescadores, accompanied by the usual food and beverages, which are the result of the Clube Recreativo, Cultural e Desportivo Luzense partnership.

Keeping with tradition, Festa do Banho will include a swimwear contest to get the community fully involved alongside the same bathing activities as last year. However, the contest has an innovative twist, which aims to encourage stylists and fashion designers to create original and unique swimsuits. To encourage participation, the City Council has set prizes ranging from 500 to 1500 euros for the winners in the “Tradition and Community” section, with the support of the Lagos delegation of ACRAL – Association of Commerce and Services of the Algarve Region, which assumes the co-production of the event.

If you are interested in participating, the registration for the works “Fashion and Innovation” runs until 31 July and must be formalised by filling out the registration form available below. To participate in the "Tradition and Community" component, registration can be made until 7:30 pm on 29 August, on the same platform, or in person, on 29 August, at the venue.
