According to a report on the rule of law in European Union countries, released by the community executive, Portugal “has made some progress” in adapting human resources to the judicial system, but it is still not enough.
Therefore, the European Commission has recommended that the country increase judicial staff and all necessary human resources and continue to “improve the effectiveness, particularly of administrative courts”.
The country must also move forward with “measures to ensure the adequacy of criminal legislative procedures to effectively deal with complex criminal cases”, and also “continue efforts to ensure sufficient resources to prevent, investigate and repress corruption, particularly to the new Anti-Corruption Mechanism”.
Ursula von der Leyen's executive also wants Portugal to ensure the “monitoring and verification” of the mechanisms for the Transparency Entity.
