The alert was given at around 11:00 am on Saturday by people who were on the beach, and members of the Portimão Maritime Police (PM) Local Command were sent to the scene.

Upon arrival at the scene, the PM members found the dolphin "in difficulties in a rocky area near the beach", which, "with the support of two locals", then allowed for its rescue and to be returned to its natural habitat.

The Portimão Maritime Police Local Command took charge of the incident.
