The Food and Economic Safety Authority (ASAE) and the local command of the Lisbon Maritime Police carried out a joint inspection operation on the beaches of Costa da Caparica, namely on the beaches of S. João, Frente Urbana, and Fonte da Telha, in the municipality of Almada, which culminated in the closure of two restaurants due to a lack of hygiene.

The operation, which began on Saturday afternoon and ended in the early hours of Sunday, aimed at "protecting consumers, promoting healthy competition between economic operators and safeguarding public health", the authorities stated.

The operation included the inspection of 11 economic operators, "with six criminal proceedings having been instituted, related to damaged foodstuffs (unfit for consumption), fraud involving merchandise related to the refilling of cruet sets with lower quality olive oil and usurpation of musical activity".

"Seven administrative offences were also detected, namely for violation of the general duties of operating entities, lack of labelling of alcoholic beverages, improper use of non-tamper-proof cruet sets and deficiencies in hygiene conditions", the note indicated.

ASAE also highlighted having ordered "the immediate suspension of the activity of two economic operators" due to lack of hygiene in catering establishments, in addition to having "seized various sound equipment, foodstuffs unfit for consumption, around 20 cruet sets and various alcoholic beverages, all worth approximately 11,500 euros".

The operation involved 10 inspectors from ASAE and 27 members of the local command of the Lisbon Maritime Police.
