The surge is largely driven by a construction boom funded by EU post-COVID recovery funds, of which Italy received €200 billion of the total €800 billion, becoming the largest recipient of the initiative. According to the industry group Federcostruzioni, these funds have injected billion into the country's construction sector, with 59 percent of the €45.6 billion spent by the end of 2023 allocated to this industry.
