Leiria's mayor has promised that the Dr. Magalhães Pessoa Stadium field would be ready for play on 11th October.

“It is our conviction, based on the guarantees left by the company that is carrying out the recovery work, that, on the 11th of October, the pitch will be in perfect condition for the return of sports practice”, said Gonçalo Lopes in a post.

Recall that the playing field was damaged during the Rockin'1000 event on 14th September, and the League closed it as a result. This means that the Leiria club will have to play at Rio Maior against Marítimo and Felgueiras.

The concert that ultimately resulted in damage to the stadium's pitch was deemed “a huge success” by the head of Leiria City Council.

He continued: “The strategy for making the municipal stadium viable also involves large-scale construction, always seeking to make the different uses of this venue as compatible as possible, in a sustainable and balanced way.”

It should be recalled that the Leiria City Council recently disclosed that the Leiria SAD owes 141 thousand euros for the use of the stadium for games and the use of the space for headquarters, in response to complaints from the Leiria Union to the municipality.
