“We are now entering the month of October with a great acceleration in relation to family reunification processes”, said Pedro Portugal Gaspar, in an interview with Lusa.
This type of process has not been transferred to the mission structure that is resolving pending processes and is “an area in which we will move forward”, with priority over processes related to changes of residence for investment.
The goal is to start “with an effective response capacity” of the services, expanding the availability of appointments to a “very high age range of minors”, close to 18 years old.
Immigrants with minor children will be able to register on the portal and request an appointment for family reunification, thus being able to bring their families, which will bring “some uncertainty about the number of people” to regularise.
It will be “an action to be developed with great emphasis and commitment on the part of AIMA”, he added.
Family reunification is something demanded by immigrant associations and is considered one of the most important factors for the integration of communities.
The presence of children in school and of spouses provides a situation of daily normality for those who are in Portugal, say several experts.

I had applied in Portalagre Aima on 15 December 2023 to call my wife and my child from India. So in April, they told me that you should get your children's birth certificate and marriage certificate issued on a new date.So then I got both the certificates notarized and translated and sent them in the first week of the May,After that! I waited till July. But no reply came, so I went to go personally at AIMA Portalagre then the officer who was taking care of my cash she was on leave at that time. Then I went for the second time in August to make an inquiry and at that time the officer was present there. So I asked her that it has been 8 months now. I did not get any reply. Then later after 2 days she tells me that the name in your child's birth certificate and your marriage certificate is wrong. I don't understand that after 8 months he didn't even see my name. And after 8 months he is saying that your name is not correct.

How many spouses temporary residents are 18 years old or younger?
Open it up to all spouses. Mine’s been waiting for an appointment for years.
