The Non-Governmental Organisation for Development (NGOD) has stated that the “Brigada Do Mar”, with the assistance of 120 Autoeuropa employees, gathered approximately 21 tonnes of rubbish during a decontamination activity in the municipality of Palmela. According to the person in charge, the “Tudo é a(mar)” program started four years ago, in collaboration with the Palmela City Council.
According to Simão Acciaioli, a member of the ‘Brigada do Mar’, during the “Tudo é a(mar)” campaign, which ran from 5 June to 25 September, in collaboration with Palmela City Council managed to gather tires, waste from household appliances, automobile parts, packaging, and glass. Simão acknowledged that illegal construction waste dumping is a major issue in Palmela municipality but added that his organization was unable to “process them” in this particular instance.
However, as he continued, other organisations' cooperation as Yamaha, is just as crucial to the project's success because those organisations supply a variety of motorised equipment necessary for the waste collection action. According to Autoeuropa, “A portion of the remaining waste that is being quantified still needs to be assessed, with the total estimated to reach 11 tonnes”.
Moreover, the car company further stresses that “the program is structured in three phases: ‘Recognize’, which involves identifying and raising awareness about the region’s environmental challenges; ‘Recover’, through practical actions to decontaminate and recover degraded areas in partnership with local NGOs; and ‘Reborn’, which culminates in reforestation and biodiversity preservation activities”. Autoeuropa, which on 25 September joined the ‘Brigada do Mar’ volunteers, with 120 workers, confirms its commitment to environmental conservation through the ‘Renascer’ initiative, which is integrated into the Volkswagen Group’s sustainability strategy.
