Portugal has today recorded a total of 119 deaths associated with covid-19, 19 more than on Saturday, and 5,962 infected, according to the epidemiological bulletin released by the Directorate-General for Health (DGS).
The epidemiological situation report in Portugal, with data updated until 24:00 on Saturday, indicates that the North region is the one with the highest number of deaths (61), followed by the Centro and Lisbon and Vale do Tejo regions, with 28 each, and the Algarve, which today registers two dead.
In relation to Saturday, when there were 100 deaths, today there was an increase of 19%.
According to DGS data, there are 5,962 confirmed cases, an additional 792 (an increase of 15.3%) compared to Saturday.
Of the 100 deaths recorded, 70 were over 80 years old, 27 were between 70 and 79 years old, 15 between 60 and 69 years old and five between 50 and 59 years old. For the first time, the bulletin records deaths in the 40-49 age group (two women).
DGS data, which refer to 75% of confirmed cases, state that Lisbon is the city with the highest number of SARSCov2 coronavirus infections (594), followed by Porto (317 cases), Vila Nova de Gaia ( 351), Maia (296), Matosinhos (294), Gondomar (242) and Braga (208).
Since January 1, 38,042 suspected cases have been registered, of which 5,508 are awaiting laboratory results.
The epidemiological bulletin also indicates that there are 26,572 cases in which the test results were negative and that 43 patients recovered.
Of the 5,962 people infected with the new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), the vast majority (5,476) are recovering at home, 486 (over 68, + 16.2%) are hospitalized, 138 (over 49, + 55%) of which in Intensive Care Units.
The North region continues to record the highest number of infections, totaling 3,550, followed by the region of Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, with 1,478 cases, from the Center (709), the Algarve (108) and the Alentejo region, which today has 41 cases .
There are still 33 people infected with covid-19 in the Azores, 43 in Madeira.
DGS also records 17,785 contacts under surveillance by the authorities (minus 2,142).
The age group most affected is 40 to 49 years old (1,146), followed by 50 to 59 years old (1,084), 30 to 39 years old (902) and 60 to 69 years old (850).
There are also 64 cases of children aged up to nine years old, 138 of young people aged between 10 and 19 years old and 588 aged between 20 and 29 years old.
The data also indicate that there are 611 cases of people aged between 70 and 79 years old and 579 over 80 years old.
According to the DGS report, 124 cases result from the importation of the virus from Spain, 93 from France, 41 from the United Kingdom, 28 from Italy, 24 from Switzerland, 21 from the United Arab Emirates, 13 from Andorra, 10 from Brazil, eight Netherlands , seven from Germany, six from Belgium, five from Argentina, five from the USA, four from Austria, four in Cape Verde and four in Canada.
The bulletin also reports on three cases imported from India and three from Israel and two from Egypt, two from Ireland and two from Jamaica.
A case was also imported from Austria / Germany, Australia, Chile, Cuba, Denmark, Indonesia, Iran, Luxembourg, Malta, Maldives, Norway, Pakistan, Poland, Qatar, Czech Republic, Thailand, Venezuela and Ukraine.
According to DGS, 62% of patients positive for the new coronavirus have coughing symptoms, 52% fever, 35% muscle pain, 29% headache, 24% general weakness and 20% breathing difficulty. This information refers to 73% of cases.
Covid-19, caused by the new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, is an acute respiratory infection that can trigger pneumonia.
The figures are incorrect. Unfortunately there are 3 dead in Algarve as the elderly man also from Carvoeiro died yesterday. Therefore Lagoa has 2 deaths.

Considering the measures that we are living under it shows that there are many many more cases that are just not reported and hence you get these distorted statistics... The population is locked up at home and still large increases! If the curfew works the cases should come down now as the max incubation time is reached.
Time to get back to measures that see open shops again and at least a walk on the beach! Can still wash our hands and keep distance... Everything else is over the top in my opinion.
