According to information from the Leftists, boreholes have recently been identified in the county of Aljezur that have been licensed to a company belonging to a shareholder in the company that was granted the concession to prospect for hydrocarbon in the Algarve.
BE MPs João Vasconcelos and Jorge Costa suspect the afore-mentioned boreholes could be being used for other purposes, namely for the prospecting of oil.
“As it is. oil prospecting cannot yet be carried out and, around one of the holes, a foamy liquid was dumped which indicates that the hole may be being used for a purpose other than that for which it was licensed”, the MP’s said in a statement.
Left Bloc MPs are demanding answers from the Government, through the Ministry for the Environment, about what activity exactly is taking place, and what measures will be taken to ensure the legality of the operations, namely with regard to the interdiction of prospecting for hydrocarbons
