Portuguese cobblestone is a candidate for National Intangible Cultural Heritage, it was unveiled today in Lisbon. The move aims to preserve the decorative sidewalk craft as an “identity element” and to value the art of paving, according to the promoters of the initiative. The proposal, which is to be submitted today, was unveiled at a ceremony at Lisbon Council, attended by representatives of the Portuguese Calçada Association, which promoted the candidacy, and the municipality of Lisbon, the city where this type of pavement is most widely found.
Has anybody consulted with people in wheelchairs about this? Some traditions might not be well suited for modern times, I would think. Apart from being uneven and, I would imagine, extremely bumpy for people in wheelchairs, it is very difficult to walk on these cobbles when it rains. And, yes, it does rain in Lisbon very often. But then, I am probably only a stupid foreigner who does not get Portugal...

Location Aveiro. The persons who make these decisions obviously are not wheelchair bound. Or have the task of caring for. Normal blind leading the blind decisions in all governments..
