Among the hundred male surfers competing in this second stage, Portuguese Frederico Morais and Vasco Ribeiro, the Brazilians Samuel Pupo, Alex Ribeiro and Caio Ibeli, the French surfer Michel Bourez, the American Nat Young and the Japanese Canoa Igarashi stand out.

Frederico Morais, who is 10th in the world ranking, told Lusa that - despite not needing the qualification, as he is already part of the elite surfing world championship - "all competitions are important" and that "he wants to win”.

“The pressure is not the same, because at the end of the day it has no impact on my qualification, but it is in front of the Portuguese and I want to make everyone proud”, said Frederico Morais, who set his goal for 2022 to “remain in the top 10 or get better”.

Among the females, Portuguese Teresa Bonvalot, the Australian Keely Andrew, the French Pauline Ado, the Hawaiian Coco Ho and the Brazilian Silvana Lima stand out.

At the press conference for the presentation of the competition, Teresa Bonvalot stressed that it was a very intense year, after having been ranked ninth in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, and, by participating in the QS test in Ericeira, she continues with “the same goal”, which is in joining 'Kikas' in the elite surfing world championship.
