According to the Portuguese Professional Football League (LPFP), which in July drew up a vaccination plan to be applied to 34 sports societies, in line with the Directorate-General for Health (DGS), 73.7 percent of league I and II have been vaccinated.
After nearly 10 full rounds in both levels, the entity led by Pedro Proença was only forced to postpone the match between Académica and Estrela da Amadora (2-2), in the fourth round of the II League, due to a series of cases of infection.
The clubs registered in the European competitions were the first to have their athletes inoculated, as part of a process which the LPFP also sought to use as a means to sensitise younger generations through football to the importance of vaccination, which was part of a campaign called “You're in the game: vaccinate yourself!”
Those who have refused to take the vaccine still have to undergo a negative PCR test before each match, while those who have already had the coronavirus infection only need to receive one dose instead of the usual two.
The doctors of each club, as in 2020/21, must issue a certificate for all the people who will be present on the match sheet, indicating whether they are vaccinated, recovered from the infection in the previous 180 days or have tested negative.
