Saharan ‘Clay Rain’ due to affect Portugal

The phenomenon, known as “Clay rain”, is related to the transport of sand particles from the Sahara desert to the Iberian Peninsula, and is due to affect the interior North and Centre of Portugal in the coming days.

The southeast of the Iberian Peninsula has been hit by air currents that have dragged particles from North Africa, painting the skies of the Murcia region orange.

According to a report by Observador, air quality will suffer a considerable deterioration, and people who are more sensitive to this type of phenomenon should be extra careful, and if possible avoid exposure to the open air.

I used to live in Tenerife and got used to these weird dust storms from the Sahara when I lived there. They were called "calimas," and it was like being in thick fog but very warm and dry. Visibility went right down and the sun could hardly shine through the thick dust in the sky. We sometimes had several in a year.

Wesley have a look at the pressure chart ! stand with your back to the wind and the "low" will be on your left. Winds don't blow in straight lines !
