According to the DGS weekly report, all regions of mainland
Portugal and Madeira reported cases of human infection with the virus, 82.6% of
cases were reported in Lisbon, the North is the second region of the country
with the most reported cases of Monkeypox (66), followed by the Centre ( 11),
Alentejo and Algarve (seven) and Madeira (three).
The presence of the Monkeypox virus was detected in Portugal
on May 3, with laboratory confirmation of five cases of infection, and, since
then and until last Wednesday, 633 cases were identified.
According to the DGS, of the universe of cases reported in
the Epidemiological Surveillance System, most belong to the age group between
30 and 39 years and the vast majority of infections (99.6%) are men, with two
cases (0.4 %) in females.
On July 16, vaccination of the first three close contacts of
cases began and, since then, eligible contacts in different regions of the
country continue to be identified and sent for vaccination, the DGS also
informed.
