51,000 fans filled the beach to witness an authentic surf show, on a Sunday full of action and drama, with the number of people present constituting a new historic maximum.
The eliminations of Portuguese Frederico Morais, North American Kelly Slater, 11 times world champion, the Hawaiian John John Florence, two-time champion, and defending champion Brazilian Filipe Toledo, were the highlights of the day, which began with spring sunshine and ended with dense fog.
