According to José Lopes, director general of easyJet in Portugal, the airline is focused “on offering more diversified routes to the Portuguese and on increasing the number of tourists that come to Portugal and, thus, contributing to the growth of the national economy”.
Eduardo Jesus, Regional Secretary for Tourism and Culture of Madeira and President of the Madeira Promotion Association, is satisfied with this new route by easyJet in the region, which represents the resumption of a route that had ceased to be operated by the company for over three years.
“It is a very important contribution to the IATA winter, boosting the arrival of more travellers, at this time of year, from a country that has a large Madeiran community, and, at the same time, allowing to attract passengers from other Swiss airports, as well as from other neighbouring cities”.
Francisco Pita, Commercial Director at ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal | VINCI Airports, welcomes easyJet's "continued commitment" to Madeira, where the airline operates domestic flights but also "direct flights to various European destinations, to which Switzerland now joins, with this new connection to Basel", which will boost " the positioning of Madeira as a tourist destination”.
