The earthquake occurred at 01:44 and the epicenter was located "about 25 kilometers west of Peniche".
The institute also explains that “no information was received confirming that this earthquake was felt” by the population.
Hours earlier, the IPMA announced that two tremors, the first with a magnitude of 2.4 on the Richter scale and a second with a magnitude of 2.9, were recorded at 10:16 pm and 10:24 pm, respectively, on Sunday, near Montemor- o-Novo, district of Évora.
The earthquakes did not cause personal or material damage and were felt with maximum intensity IV (modified Mercalli scale) in the Montemor-o-Novo region, said the institute.
