As of 1 September, 37 more speed cameras will be active in Portugal, 12 of them average speed cameras. If you want to know how to tell them apart, the National Road Safety Authority (ANSR) has given an explanation, as reported by NM.
"All radars of the National Speed Control System are always signposted. The objective is that everyone who circulates on the roads knows these places and complies, in all situations, with the speed limits, protecting not only their own life but also that of their family and others".
For instantaneous speed cameras, sign H43 will be placed a few meters before.
In the case of being in the presence of an average-speed camera, the sign will be different. The H42 is the new sign in Portugal.
Long overdue! Maybe when they are on all major highways the idiot speedsters will get their comeuppance.

Yes it is scary a lot of the time on the roads. I travel between Porto and Lisbon a lot. I do 120 km max, but i appears i'm doing 60Km so fast do cars pass me by. They have to be doing 160/180 no bother, madness.

I do not see a problem with 160kph on the main highways, unless of course you cannot drive properly, in which case just stay off the main roads and leave it to someone who can drive properly.

,To Martin in Lisbon Maximium speed is irrelevant ,it is the disparity in speed ,vehicle type, and skill level that is the problem , and as such speed limits are set to reflect the lowest . The arrogant retards who don't appreciate this can be found driving at 160kph 2meters from the rear bumper of the car in front ..... Or the cemetary
