The recommendation to restrict the consumption of cornbread by the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) and the Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE) remains “in areas considered at risk, until there is a guarantee that all food or potentially contaminated products are effectively removed from the market”, the DGS told Lusa, in a written response.

According to that health entity, “the raw materials involved in this occurrence were identified and removed from the production circuit, maintaining the systematic assessment of their possible presence, with all measures considered appropriate for risk management being implemented”.

In a joint statement released on August 10, the DGS and ASAE advised against the consumption of cornbread in localities in the districts of Leiria, Santarém, Coimbra and Aveiro while the investigation into food poisoning associated with this food is ongoing.
