An earthquake of magnitude 2.9 (Richter), with an epicentre located at sea, approximately 45 kilometres south-southwest of Albufeira, was recorded at the Continental Seismic Network stations at 5:50 am (local time).

According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), there is no indication that the earthquake was felt.
