The joint operation inspected six establishments that breed and sell Serra da Estrela dogs, in the Serra da Estrela Natural Park area.

“Four irregular situations were detected, which resulted in the respective participations and will give rise to the respective administrative proceedings”, said the GNR and the ICNF.

The two entities explained that the action also involved “raising awareness among pet holders of the importance of ensuring compliance with legal provisions”.

The GNR and ICNF highlighted that “they will continue to carry out awareness-raising actions aimed at the well-being of these animals, as well as carrying out sanctioning operations that are justified in order to eradicate inappropriate practices”.
