The orange warning, the second most serious on a scale of three, was activated in the districts of Porto, Viana do Castelo, Leiria and Braga at 00:49, and in force until 00:00 on Tuesday. In Aveiro and Coimbra it lasts for another three hours, IPMA said in a statement.

In the districts of Faro and Beja, the orange warning is in force between 15:00 and 06:00 on Tuesday, and in Lisbon between 06:00 and the same time the following day.

During this period, the IPMA predicts "northwest waves with a significant height of five to six meters, reaching a maximum height of 11 metres."
