In a statement, ACOS - Associação de Agricultores do Sul, promoter of the event, revealed today the last name of the 'Ovinoites', the strong point of the fair's cultural programme, with various musical performances, which attracts thousands of people to the venue, the majority being young people.
In this 40th edition of the Ovibeja agricultural fair, which will take place as usual at the Manuel de Castro e Brito Fairs and Exhibitions Park, visitors will be treated, on the evening of May 3rd, to the music of the “legendary English band of reggae UB40”, said ACOS.
UB40 “is a band for social causes”, said the event’s organisers, highlighting that the group formed in 1978, continues today “to infect audiences that are impossible to categorise by age, ethnicity or nationality”.
The group is the author of hits “across several generations”, such as the songs “Red Red Wine”, “Dance Until The Morning Light”, “Please Don't Make Me Cry” or “Don't Break My Heart ”, among others, recalled ACOS.
“In a year celebrating 40 editions, Ovibeja celebrates with everyone and for everyone the music, voices and lyrics of an iconic band, which has established itself as an ambassador for great causes throughout its history”, they highlighted.
According to ACOS, tickets can now be purchased at BOL – Ticket Office online, linked to the Ovibeja website www.ovibeja.pt.
In addition to UB40, this year's Ovibeja soundtrack includes shows from Calema (April 30), Buba Espinho (May 1), the group Lucky Duckies (May 2) and fado singer Ana Moura (May 4).
The event, presented as the fair that brings together “All of the Alentejo”, has as its central theme, this year, “40 years of associations”, in connection with its 40th anniversary.
The theme “unites, in a joint effort, a long journey of dreams and achievements, as a plural, unprecedented event of sharing and transmission of added value”, announced ACOS.
In the 1st edition of Ovibeja, in 1984, “a dozen sheep producers participated, in an initiative within the May Fair or Spring Fair”, but, currently, the event “brings together more than 100 thousand visitors, more than 1,000 exhibitors and hundreds of initiatives”, not just agricultural, but from various sectors.
