"The price of a basket of 63 food items rose by 77 cents (plus 0.32%) between March 13 and 20 and now costs 238.36 euros. According to data from DECO PROteste, a year ago, this basket of goods essential food costs €12.21 less (5.40% less). Two years ago, it was possible to buy exactly the same foods for €46.08 less (24% less)", explains the consumer protection organization.
What prices have risen the most?
In the last year, between March 22, 2023 and March 20, 2024, the products whose price increased the most in percentage terms were:
Extra virgin olive oil, which a year ago cost 7.08 euros and now costs 11.46 euros. This is an increase of 4.38 euros (62% more);
Fresh hake, which increased by 4.44 euros per kilo (58% more), from 7.63 euros per kilo to 12.07 euros per kilo;
Cereals, which rose 97 cents (plus 32%), going from 3.03 euros to 4 euros.
