The image caused a lot of controversy among Portuguese internet users, who accused Mercadona of "robbing" Portuguese citizens.
"It's not enough that the Portuguese are exploited and robbed by Portuguese companies, they also come from other countries to do the same thing!", wrote one of the consumers.
However, according to the Spanish website Infobae, Mercadona has already clarified the price of the 'Tomate Canario', which is shown on the poster in question, and guarantees that it is part of its "food waste reduction policy", that is, it reduces the price of products when it is "necessary to eliminate stock", something very common during the final hours of the day, when products are about to perish or when stores do not open the next day.
On the controversial poster, it is possible to see that the price of the Canario tomato was actually 1.75 euros/kg and has dropped to 0.50 euros/kg.
So something happened on the internet and someone reacted - but the thing wasn't true? I can't believe it.

Spain is 30-50% cheaper than Portugal across the board for supermarket shops to cars. It’s Portuguese taxes that kill competition. Not the retailer’s fault.

Agree - it’s always the PT taxes which are too high in comparison with Spain. Whether food or cars.
