The MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) segment contributes significantly to tourism revenue and the consequent development of the city. The strategic location, modern and versatile infrastructure, excellent access and diverse cultural offerings have consolidated Lisbon as one of the main European destinations for organising events. The executive director of the Lisbon Tourism Association, Paula Oliveira, argues that winning this award “is recognition of the collective work to position Lisbon as a global reference destination, which contributes significantly to the creation of revenue and jobs, as well as to the rehabilitation of heritage.”

In a press release, ATL reveals that, in 2023, 151 associative events were counted in the ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association) ranking, an organization that monitors the holding of events worldwide. From 2019 to 2022, Lisbon has been ranked 2nd in the European and world rankings. In 2023, and with a difference of just one congress compared to the city that occupied 2nd place worldwide (Singapore), Lisbon is the 2nd European city with the most events, after Paris.

The World MICE Awards recognize excellence in the MICE industry and reward destinations, airlines, hotels, organisers and infrastructures that stand out in this sector.
