The Santo da Serra Golf Course was also named “Best Par 3 Hole in the World” in a list of iconic locations organised by the World Golf Awards and was recognised for its concern for the environment with the title “Best Sustainable Water Catchment System in the World”, the organisation said in a statement.

Palheiro Golf, on the outskirts of Funchal, also received the award for “Best Panoramic Clubhouse in the World” due to the views it has over the city and the Atlantic Ocean.

In the document announcing the winners, the regional secretary for Economy, Tourism and Culture and president of the Madeira Promotion Association, Eduardo Jesus, considers that the award given to the region “is an honour and, above all, a reward for the work that has been carried out in favour of the development, promotion and communication of this sport”.

“We have three truly exceptional golf courses in the region, designed by some of the most renowned names in the area, perfectly integrated into our unique landscape, and we are already building the fourth course, this time on the western tip of Madeira", highlights the island's governor.

Eduardo Jesus highlights that, "in recent years, the association has been developing work to strengthen the communication of each of the various courses and, through the Madeira Golf Passport project, has increased the promotion of this sport worldwide".

For the regional secretary, "this award, which is once again being given to the Region, is the consolidation of the investment that has been made in this sport and is also an added responsibility to continue to position Madeira as a unique golf destination in the world".

In turn, the president of the Legislative Assembly of Madeira, José Manuel Rodrigues, has already welcomed the awarding of these prizes to Madeira, for “reinforcing the region’s tourism projection at an international level”.
