“On Wednesday, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider and local hero Miguel Oliveira will drive his RC16 MotoGP from Portimão to the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve. Before departure, the pilot will welcome fans on stage, where the mayor of Portimão, Isilda Gomes, will offer him a special helmet alluding to his home GP, before leading a group of Portuguese fans who, on their motorcycles, will accompany him on the 30-minute journey through the secondary roads”, reads the team's statement.
According to KTM, this will be “the first time that MotoGP fans will be able to accompany, side by side, their hero on a competition motorcycle”, it reads.
As soon as the parade arrives at the Portimão circuit, Miguel and his companions will be taken to the track, “where everyone will be able to accompany him on a low speed lap around the track”, explained the Austrian team.
The event ends in the middle of the finish line, where the Portuguese driver will take a 'selfie' with the fans who accompany him.
