According to the mayor of Portimão, Isilda Gomes, the 64-year-old municipal employee was operating a forklift machine in Portimão Arena when he got stuck between a beam and the vehicle, which caused his death.
"The circumstances in which the accident occurred are being investigated, which we regret and are deeply dismayed by", said the mayor.
According to Isilda Gomes, the employee, "Mr. Arlindo", had been working for the municipality for several years and was preparing to retire next month.
As it was a work accident, the Authority for Working Conditions (ACT) was called, noted the mayor, adding that the Judiciary Police (PJ) also went to the scene.
