The victims are mainly men (72.1%) and the fatalities occur in unsupervised places (97.15), highlighted the federation.

The data is contained in a report by the Drowning Observatory, from FEPONS, for the first semester, in which it is highlighted that there was an increase in deaths in the younger ages, up to 24 years old.

In 2021, also between January and June, 46 deaths had been recorded; 64 in 2020; 44 in 2019; 53 in 2018 and 62 in 2017, according to data in the report.

“At a time when there is a huge difficulty in hiring lifeguards, and at a time when temperatures are going to rise, these conclusions worry FEPONS, which calls on the political class for an urgent review of the legislation in this sector”.
