The study “Domestic accidents and residents’ associations”, developed by Liberty Seguros with Kantar and Red C for Liberty in Europe (Portugal, Spain and Ireland), identified the main problems addressed in residents’ associations as:

- noise in the neighbourhood (40%);

- non-payment of dues (38%);

- works to be carried out in the association (32%);

- cleanliness of the organization (26%);

- faults that affect more than one home (22%);

- the use of common areas (20%).

The same study - carried out between September and October 2023, which included 500 Portuguese respondents - reveals that the majority choose to speak directly to the neighbour in question or decide to address the topic at meetings of the residents' association of which they are a member. Only 1% of respondents admit to using the legal assistance service provided by their home insurance or association insurance, according to the report shared by idealista.

“Both homes and communities are exposed to numerous unforeseen events arising from their own use, the impact of climate, aging or new needs”, explains José Luis García Camiñas, Executive Product Director at Liberty Seguros in Europe, in a statement. He emphasised that “each community is different, which is why having a personalised insurance policy, with the necessary coverage for each case, can be fundamental to maintaining the habitability and comfort of homes and common spaces”.

The same study revealed is that almost half of Portuguese people (around 45%) are part of a residents' association, whether in a house, semi-detached house or apartment. And only 28% define their relationship with their neighbours as a friendly relationship.
