Today Montijo airport saw the extension of the environmental declaration deadline rejected by the ICNF – Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests -, which considered that there had been a change in circumstances and the environmental framework, revealed SIC News.
ANA Aeroportos de Portugal has already been notified of the decision by the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) and now has 10 days to contest it, but if the final decision stands, Montijo will be ruled out as the new location of Lisbon airport.
ANA has shown a preference for Montijo, as a complementary airport to Portela, as it is cheaper and quicker to build, although this option was considered unfeasible by the technical committee.
The CTI responsible for the strategic environmental assessment for increasing airport capacity in the Lisbon region presented, on December 5, the preliminary report, which will serve as the basis for the Government's decision on the new airport: Alcochete and Vendas Novas are the two options identified by the independent technical committee, on October 5th, as viable for a new airport, together with Humberto Delgado until it is possible to move to a single infrastructure, was announced today.
According to the preliminary report of the independent technical committee responsible for the strategic environmental assessment for increasing airport capacity in the Lisbon region, which studied nine options, the Humberto Delgado + Campo de Tiro de Alcochete solutions are viable, until only Alcochete remains with a minimum with two lanes, as well as Humberto Delgado + Vendas Novas, until only Vendas Novas remains, also with a minimum of two lanes.
Why does this location for the new airport HAVE to be on Lisbons doorstep
