The average rent for contracts signed between 2017 and 2021, which represents the majority of the Portuguese market, was 440 euros. In contracts signed until 1990, the average rent was 137 euros.

According to Público, which cites the "Housing Rental in Portugal", study (November 20, 2023) by the Institute of Housing and Urban Rehabilitation (IHRU), in 2021 there were 922,810 housing rental contracts in force, of which 151,620 had been signed by 1990 (more than 16% of the total). In these contracts, the average rent was 137.7 euros per month, a value that rises to 164.46 euros in the case of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area (AML). It should be noted that the majority of contracts had rents of less than 200 euros per month, with only 21% of contracts having rents above this value.
