According to a source from the Civil Guard of Cartaya, in the south of Spain, the security force was called on Sunday to the sports venue - where the 'Gañafote Cup' tournament was taking place - because of "an altercation" and "to expel" Sérgio Conceição from the locker room, to where he entered without authorization at the end of a game.
After the final game of the children's tournament, between FC Porto and Seville, the Porto coach insulted the referee and "jumped off the bench and went into the dressing room".
The mayor, Manuel Barroso, then filed a complaint against Sérgio Conceição, said the same source from the Civil Guard (a security force similar to the National Republican Guard in Portugal).
Speaking to Antena Huelva Radio, mayor Manuel Barroso said that Sérgio Conceição and other people who were with the FC Porto coach attacked the referee and the mayor himself.
"After the final whistle, an official called me. He told me that some people had just entered the field of play to attack the referee. I ran to help him, the man [the referee] was entering the tunnel. Before entering, one of them slapped him. I placed myself in the middle, to serve as a shield, and asked who they were to jump onto the pitch, as they couldn't jump onto the pitch like that. With a grotesque and arrogant attitude, they said to me: 'You don't know who you're talking to'", said the mayor.
Manuel Barroso said he identified himself as the mayor of Cartaya and the group then began to insult and attack him.
"They pushed each other, grabbed me by the neck and I tried to resist pushing them until the authorities, the Civil Guard, arrived," he said.
Manuel Barroso said that he later found out that one of the men was Sérgio Conceição and asked the FC Porto coach if he was not ashamed of his behavior.
"But he continued to lack respect for me and even threatened to kill me", assured the mayor, who said he had filed a personal complaint with the Civil Guard and that the Cartaya council will also do the same under Spanish sports law.
"I think a person like that should be punished. We organised this tournament for children to have fun and continue playing sports. This image was regrettable," he added.
