According to a report by Publituris, the Association states that, at the beginning of 2024, it sent a letter of demand to Ryanair's CFO DAC, Tracey McCann, explaining the difficulties that travel agencies are experiencing in providing services to their end customers, “as a result of abusive commercial or legal practices by the airline Ryanair in the Portuguese market”.
The legal action with the Competition Authority is already underway, but, “given the high costs it entails”, ANAV has decided to make a general appeal to travel agencies and third parties that can contribute to this process being carried out.
Miguel Quintas, president of ANAV, points out that “Portuguese travel agencies continue to find it very difficult to provide a quality service to their end customers whenever that service involves selling Ryanair flights”, so “we will be consistent in defending the rights of travel agencies and we will do our part, moving forward with the legal action to which we have committed”. However, he believes: “We need everyone’s support and contribution to leverage this process”.
Hello Team of Travel Agents. I am so pleased to hear of travel agents taking Ryanair to court to put their case forward and upholding the rights of customers and travel agents who have valid reasons raised against Ryanair's policies . In my opinion Ryanair have engaged in unethical practices in terms of hidden prices in relation to carry on luggage and recent penalties for customers if they bring refreshments on board. On two occasions I have paid 50 GBP if I wanted to have carry on luggage I had to pay for priority however when I went to the departure area I was refused to take my suitcase because it didn’t fit the within the parameters of the scales . If I wanted to take my luggage I would need to pay another 50 GBP . I refused and attempted to explain I had already paid for priority . I emptied my case and took out needed items and left the case behind because I refused to pay twice. I wish you all the best with your campaign and hoping justice is done for Agents and customers Best Eileen Still
