In an effort to answer parking deficits and increase the rotativity of streets whose parking hasn’t been taxed yet, the Municipality will implement measures that range from widening limited-time parking areas and imposing a maximum parking time limit to creating different zones according to proximity to the urban centre.
With these new regulations, Loulé council intends there to be coherence in the offer of parking, promoting its rotativity, safeguarding residents’ parking, and avoiding abusive parking in areas that aren’t charged yet, while feeding commercial attractiveness and citizens’ quality of life.
In the case of Loulé, beyond the extension of parking charges to new streets, there will be 2 areas created. On one hand, a green area, corresponding to the city streets with the least pressure, towards the periphery, where the schedules will be kept, paid weekdays and resident benefits, as well as a tariff of €0.80/h, in which there won’t be a time limit.
On the other hand, in the red area, corresponding to the city centre, the parking meters will function on the same schedule, but there’ll be a price hike (up to €1.20/h), a time limit defined (2 hours) and the residents who benefit from parking privileges won’t have the benefit of free parking inside.
In the case of Vale do Lobo, besides the extension of streets with paid parking, the changed regulations will allow these paid parking zones to run on the same calendar, being active from June 1st to September 30th.
The municipal authorities believe these measures are essential to discipline parking in city centres and, at the same time, promote sustainable mobility through investing in the quality of public transport and bicycle use in the population’s daily commutes.
